Therapist reacts to a 45 by Shinedown
Therapist analyzes the lyrics to 45 by Shinedown to discuss the value of shifting your anger away from what happened and toward the negative things that anger or situation makes you want to do. Shifting your anger toward something that can actually change is a more powerful action instead of focusing the anger on the past which can create a sense of hopelessness.

I enjoy these kind of reactions better than the musical or vocal analysis. I don't want to hear someone talking about diphthongs and the area of behind their teeth allowing more air to create a certain note. That is definitely not for me. I like what you do though. And I know every therapist could have a different opinion but that's just my opinion

Don't you want to SLAP her? Yeah, decades of inexperieced people dealing out the new best drug. THERAPY is the answer. Not just having "somone to vent to" but someone who can guide you on your own journey, not offering platitudes and not being...ugh...SMUG. I am happy to see the forward movement in the mental health treatment field. I am able to look forward to my very last decade or so of life with some kind of peace. Quality of life!!!!! Way too much violence, people just losing it on society in general....FACE IT we all need some therapy. We aren't sick, we aren't well, we are HUMAN and we need to be educated in how to work through our problems. We are not victims, we are STUDENTS who need information and direction. A lot fewer "sick" people with the right help. Please, Dear Gods; we need it. Be a TEACHER...Pay it forward. P.S.: In the last year, two of my friends who were experencing sudden onset mental distress....were tested for Lyme disease. Positive. We can work back from there. Start working on the physical problems. I am so personally grateful to Ren Gill.

This is actually one of my favorite songs and I love your react to it. It's also very cathartic when you're driving down the road and you've got this song on super loud and you got the windows down and you can just sing along with it as loud as you want. This definitely isn't one of those earbuds at Walmart kind of songs. This is excellent!

There's a live version of this that was done from a show in Kansas City that's here on da Tube. Take a watch of that one. Brent gives a great opening monologue that I think you'd appreciate. Check out their song "Symptom of being human" too if you haven't. It's just an amazing song, although it's much more mellow than this.

My best friend growing up, his mum palmed him off of her parents, which is how he came to be my neighbour. We hung out all the time and once he took me to where his mum actually lived, it wasn’t even half an hour from where we lived on the bus and she never went to see him. What his grandparents told him was that she’d got married and started a new family and she didn’t want him ruining it, we were 12 and I didn’t know what to say other than to take him somewhere else and get in some trouble to take his mind off it. We weren’t the best behave kids but nothing terrible. A year later I was expelled from school and sent to a boarding school on the other side of the country and we didn’t get to speak much as it was before mobile phones and the internet. I came home when I was in my early twenties and he’d left to join the army, his grandparents told me he was serving in Bosnia after the Serb/Croat war where thousands of Muslims were murdered and a few years later when I met him again it wasn’t him anymore. He told me, emotionlessly, of the things he seen in graphic detail, we got absolutely hammered and that was the last time I ever saw him. I’ve looked for him online but I don’t think he wants to be found and his grandparents died long ago so… I do hope he found peace.

Wonderful analysis. I'm struggling to think of a Shinedown song that ISN'T about mental health, addiction, and dealing with emotional health. The list is HUGE. Save Me. What a Shame. Through the Ghost. Symptom of Being Human. Monsters. Burning Bright. Beyond the Sun. Atlas Falls. Enemies. Bully. This is a band that gets it. They've lived it. And survived. They share these experiences - good and bad - through their music. Somehow, it makes us feel less alone and more understood.
